Investments in the Altstadt Garage Salzburg

Here is an overview
of everything that is going on with me.

Modern Equipment
Extensive investments in the Altstadt are planned for 2024. Every year approximately 1 million Euros are invested in the construction and maintenance of the infrastructure by Salzburger Parkgaragen GmbH.

The focus of the investments for 2024 is:

  • Renovation of the electrical engineering
  • Renewal of video surveillance of parking garages
  • Renovation of the Bürgerspital
  • Renewal of the CO system
  • The construction of 20 E-charging stations
  • The finalisation of the lighting changeover to LED lights in the station garage

Parking guidance system
Under the leadership of SPG, a parking guidance system has been launched for the City of Salzburg. 12 parking companies are connected to the parking guidance system. Depending on the location, the occupancy rate is displayed on-site, on local feeder roads and in real time on the internet Moenchsberg.info, Altstadtgarage.at, City of Salzburg, ÖAMTC.

My Story

This is how it all

started.

1955

“In the past, the main squares of every city were a vital necessity of the first order, in that a large part of public life took place on them.”

As early as 1955, there were considerations to remove the rapidly increasing flowing and stationary individual traffic from the public cityscape.

On 24th August 1955, the architect Alfred Diener presented a project that envisaged the use of caverns and air-raid shelters in the Mönchsberg. His design included parking facilities for 30 coaches, 170 cars and 100 motorcycles. The entrances and exits were to be located at Hildmannplatz.

1975

On 14th January 1974, a Monday morning, the wife of the then Salzburg Governor DDr. Hans Lechner, Mrs. Friederike Lechner, smashed a bottle of champagne against the conglomerate wall of the Mönchsberg. This marked the start of “Operation Mönchsberg Garages”, the largest construction activity in Salzburg’s local mountain to date. The Salzburg geologist Prof. Georg Horninger was also involved in the planning phase.

On 19th July 1975, the Mönchsberg Parking Garage was opened by Federal President Rudolf Kirchschläger.

2018

In a renovation phase from 1999 to 2002, the focus was on the safety and security of the parking garages. The parking decks were made more friendly by expanding direct and indirect lighting, installing automatic sliding doors at entrances and exits, and optimising the parking lot size. Fire protection also played a major role in ensuring the highest safety standards.

Another renovation was carried out from 2010 to 2018, whereby the parking decks were structurally renovated.
